Baby Jogger Summit X3 Newborn

Baby Jogger Summit X3 is an award-winning jogging stroller that will go through anything no matter how rough the terrain gets. This updated model has all the features parents want in a jogger like full protection canopy, roomy seat, large basket, and easy fold.

The roomy seat can accommodate a child from birth and up to  75 lbs (that is like 9 year old). You can also use it from birth with an infant cat seat or a pram. The canopy is absolutely HUGE and has two viewing windows.

The all-wheel suspension and air-filled tires make it a smooth ride. The front wheel is swivel, but can be locked straight. I love the remote front-wheel lock which is located on the side of the frame instead of the wheel. You don't need to bend down and touch that dirty wheel.

The hand brake makes it easy to slow down when going down the hill. There is also an adjustable tracking to get your stroller perfectly straight while you are running.

The Summit X3 is very easy to navigate and steer. It's truly a one-hand stroller. But, the best feature of X3 is the ONE-HAND fold! Super easy. The only thing I didn't like is that there is no auto lock and no standing fold so you will need to use you other hand to lock it manually.

I gave it 5 out of 5 stars because I really like large canopy, roomy seat, huge basket, adjustable tracking, and all-wheel suspension. I would like to see an automatic lock and adjustable handle bar added which should be an easy update. The price is a little on a higher end. It retails for around $429 on Amazon and comes in three colors. BTW, last update was in 2016.

Features

-Large canopy. Baby Jogger never disappoints when it comes to canopies. The canopy on Summit X3 is HUGE! It provides a full sun coverage from the morning and evening sun. It has three sections with two peekaboo windows. One thing I am not crazy about is that peekaboo windows have velcro closures. I would prefer to see a magnetic one like on Versa and Elite models.

-Handle bar. It's NOT adjustable, but located at 40.5″ from the ground which is an average height. It has a rubber cover that is very easy to clean. Some strollers have that foam handle bar that absorbs sweat while you are running and becomes very stinky and slippery. Ack!

-Hand brake. A great safety feature for when you are jogging down the hill and need to slow down.

-Roomy seat. Summit X3 has a larger seat than a previous model and can hold a child up to 75 lbs. A high weight capacity is very important in jogging stroller because very often older kids (6-7 yeas old) can't keep up, so it is easier just to take them with you in a stroller. It is 14.5″ wide with 21″ seat back and a measurement of 24″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. Foot rest is 9″ high (not adjustable). The seat is made out of very high quality easy to clean material. We all know how messy our little angels are! :)

-Deep recline.  It has a one-hand recline that is adjusted a strap system. The seat goes from vertical to almost flat, so you can put a newborn into the stroller. You CAN'T jog with a small baby in the stroller until he is at least 8 months old. But, if you want to take your little one for a walk, it is fine. I would still recommend getting a car seat adapter and turning it into a travel system for a newborn.

-5 point harness. It has 5 point padded harness that can be easily adjusted. The center release buckle is hard to unlock for a toddler (I like that).

-Mesh window. Once the seat is fully reclined, you will see a large mesh window similar to the one on City Mini. It creates a nice air flow on a hot summer day, but could be covered with a piece of material hidden in the back of the canopy.

-Mesh pocket. Like on many other Baby Jogger models, it has a large mesh pocket on the back of the seat. Since there is no parent console, this pocket is quite handy for small items like cell phone, keys and sunglasses.

-Large basket. Most of the joggers have a very small basket underneath the seat. Not Summit X3! It has a large basket that can be accessed form the back or the sides of the stroller. It is not as convenient as on Select model, but is still very decent for a jogger.

-Wheels. It has three air-filled tires with two 16″ wheels in the back and 12″ single wheel in the front. The front swivel wheel can be quickly locked straight for jogging or if the terrain gets rough. The lock for the swivel wheel is conveniently placed on the side of the stroller so you can lock or unlock it without touching that dirty front wheel. How great is that?

-All-wheel suspension. Want a smooth ride? Than this stroller is for you. It has state-of-the-art all-wheel suspension system that will absorb all of the bumps providing your child with a smooth ride.

-Parking brake. It has a foot brake located between rear wheels. To activate the brake, you need to step on the red pedal and bring it down.

-One-hand fold.Like all Baby Jogger strollers, this one has the same easy fold. I didn't expect anything else. LOL. It is one-hand one-step fold. All you need to do is pull up the strap located in the middle of the seat and it will fold. Now, what I don't like is that there is no automatic lock. You have to manually lock it using a velcro strap.

It is a heavy stroller at 28 lbs, so you will need to use some muscles to lift it up. Folded dimensions with wheels on are 33.5″L x 25.5″W x 15.5″H. To make it more compact, you can easily remove the rear wheels. They pop right off with a push of a button. Dimensions without the wheels are 29″L x 21″W x 7″H. Without the wheels it is even MORE compact than City Mini!

-Run-away strap. This strap is attached to the bottom of the stroller and provides extra safety feature in case your stroller runs away from you when you jog. I like that it is attached to the bottom of the stroller and not at the top (like on some strollers) because if you fall while jogging ( I hope it never happens) and the strap is attached to the handle bar, the stroller will fall down with you.

Cons

-No automatic lock. You have to manually lock the stroller when folded with a velcro strap. Not a deal breaker for me, but would be nice to have an automatic lock.

-No standing fold. I kind of diminishes the one-hand fold because you have to use the other hand to lock it and bend down to the ground to put it down on into the trunk of a car. The ability to stand it up next would be much more convenient.

-Non-adjustable handle bar. That could be a deal breaker for some shorter or taller parents.

Where to buy it

My favorite place to buy strollers and a lot of other baby items is Amazon. It usually has the lowest prices, free shipping, free returns and no sales tax. How great is that?
